NBA has some rule adjustments to vote on coming up during competition committee meetings September 20-21st. This morning they sent out a memo to all teams explaining what’s up for some rule reconstruction. Here’s what is on the docket to get voted on.
Resetting the shot clock after an offensive rebound to 14 seconds from 24
Over the Summer League this year they tried out this change to see how it fared. I like it the change. Now in a let game situation you don’t get the rebound your not entirely screwed. At the same time you get a 10 second break now on defense if you don’t do your job and box out. This is all part of the NBA’s plan of more shots the merrier strategy. Year in and year out the NBA continues to find new avenues to make the game faster and more points. From taking away hand checking on defense to letting James harden and Kevin Durant get BS foul calls every game.
They will also be voting on breaking a clear path foul down into 3 parts now.
• “A personal foul is committed on any offensive player during his team’s transition scoring opportunity.”
• “When the foul occurs, the ball is ahead of the tip of the circle in the backcourt, no defensive player is ahead of the offensive player with the scoring opportunity and that offensive player is in control of the ball or a pass to him has been released.”
• “The defensive foul deprives the offensive team of a transition scoring opportunity.”
Point of these changes is to make the calls for refs easier and not as much a judgment call. Cant get clear path foul called before the half court circle now. Hopefully this means less video reviews on clear path plays now. As fast as the Association has come no game takes longer in the last couple minutes. Need a timer on these reviews too I’d suggest.
The expanded definition of the “hostile act” to trigger instant replay would now extend beyond interaction with another player to also include a hostile interaction with a referee, coach or a fan.
Just as a say maybe will save time on replays well you know what the NBA said lets add some more review eligible options. This must stem from the Russell Westbrook incident with fans in Utah in Round 1 of the Western Conference Playoffs.
